Advent Practice of Joy: Rituals +Traditions (Luke 2)

“The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.”Luke 2:40

Christmas is a time when we can easily grow nostalgic. Gathering with family (or not!), enacting long held tradition or starting new ones can all stir up memories. Rituals are a way we join the past with the present.

Mary & Joseph are faithful Jewish parents, bringing Jesus to the temple to participate in the expected rituals.

As you reflect on your childhood and youth, what rituals were a part of that? Are there special traditions around Christmas that have been meaningful for you? What are you intentional about carrying on in the present as a way of connecting to your past?

Take some time today to choose a ritual that you can engage sometime this weekend to connect with your past and bring joy to your present
